The skate features at the library underpass were installed in March 2022. The project started design and permitting in the spring 2020 with construction starting in the summer of 2021.Ĭonstruction was completed at the Scott Carpenter Skate Park, and the bike pump track and skate park at Valmont City Park in 2021.Ĭonstruction in the Valmont parking lot was completed in November 2021 with final landscaping to be completed in the spring of 2022. The community was engaged early and often throughout the project to ensure the community has input and collaboration throughout the process. The goal of the project was to create flexible and multi-use features that accommodate a variety of skill levels and abilities while also ensuring innovative design ideas to provide features that aren’t in nearby parks. Staff designed and built the new skate and pump track features by listening to the community to understanding the needs and desires of skaters and riders in Boulder. This area is primarily a street/plaza course that provided opportunities that don’t exist at the Scott Carpenter Park. A skate area was built at Valmont City Park, called the Green Block Project, which was designed and built by community partners. The only formal skatepark within the city used to be at Scott Carpenter Park, which needed updating and refreshing. The city set out to improve Scott Carpenter Park, Valmont City Park, Howard Heuston Park, and the underpass at the library to support this important recreation activity. Existing skate facilities within Boulder were due for an upgrade/enhancement to meet recent trends and demand for skaters and riders within the community.
